Itinerary

Day 1

Individual arrival in Sassnitz-Mukran and ferry ride to Rønne

approx. 5 km

In Sassnitz-Mukran, you board the ferry to Bornholm with your luggage (and your own bikes). At the port of Rønne, you will be greeted by your local tour guide, who will take your luggage. You can then continue to your hotel in Rønne, literally without any baggage. If you have booked rental bikes, they will be waiting for you at the hotel. Use your day of arrival to explore the island's capital and take your first dip in the Baltic Sea at one of the nearby beaches. Stroll through the alleyways of the old town. Rønne's lively center is the market square Store Torv. It is not only on market days that tourists and locals meet here at one of the numerous cafés or while shopping.

Day 2

Rønne – Allinge / Sandkås

approx. 30 km

From Rønne, the route of the cycle tour on Bornholm leads through Hasle past small fishing villages. Deep ravines alternate with breathtaking views of the coast. On a clear day, the Swedish mainland is visible on the horizon. At Jons Kapel steep and rugged cliffs fall vertically into the sea – it is steeped in legends. At the northern edge of Bornholm, the imposing medieval fortress of Hammershus sits enthroned on a steep cliff. Experience Bornholm's history up close on a tour of the largest castle ruins in Northern Europe! Today you will spend the night either in the idyllic harbour town of Allinge or in the small beach town of Sandkås.

Day 3

Round trip through North Bornholm

approx. 15 - 30 km

Today you will explore the northern edge of Bornholm and the Hammerknuden nature reserve. Hammerknuden translates to hammer-shaped granite rock. Leave your bike behind and go for a hike enjoying the stunning landscape. You will come across traces of granite mining, such as the opal lake. Enjoy the view from the Hammer Odde Lighthouse. At the foot of Hammerknuden, the beach at Sandvig beckons. Feel the fine sand between your toes, relax in the sun and refresh yourself with a dip in the Baltic Sea.

Day 4

Allinge – Svaneke / Balka / Nexø

approx. 30 – 40 km

The third stage of your bike tour on Bornholm runs along the north-east coast of the island. Your route takes you past the famous Helligdomsklipperne. They are probably the most impressive rock formation on the entire island. The Bornholm Art Museum, beautifully situated on the cliffs, is well worth a visit. Gudhjem is about halfway along the route. Here you should try the specialty Sol over Gudhjem, named after the town. It is a smørrebrød with herring, onions and raw egg yolk preferably at one of the traditional smokehouses. Cycle on to Svaneke. The town features well-preserved half-timbered houses built on rock. It is one of the most beautiful small towns in Denmark. You will stay in Svaneke or Balka.

Day 5

Trip to the centre of the island

approx. 35 – 40 km

Today's cycle tour takes you to the center of the island. Visit at least one of four old, large, round churches of Bornholm in the artist village of Østerlars. These churches almost look like fortresses as formerly they were used for the defense and protection of its citizens. The tour continues through the Almindigen forest. Here you will encounter the ruins of the Gamleborg and Lilleborg castles. Even more evidence of Bornholm's martial  past. Rytterknægten lies in the middle of the forest. The highest point on Bornholm is adorned with a lookout tower from which you enjoy a fantastic panoramic view.

Day 6

Svaneke – Rønne

approx. 45 – 50 km

First you cycle along the coast to the harbour town of Nexø. From Nexø, the cycle tour leads inland through wide meadows and fields to Aakirkeby. Again and again you will see Dueodde, the southern tip of Bornholm. Aakirkeby is home to one of the oldest churches on the island: Aa Kirke from the 12th century. The Nature Bornholm Center is also worth a visit. This interactive museum provides interesting facts about the island's unique nature. The rest of the route runs partly along an abandoned railroad line past Nylar's round church to Rønne.

Day 7

Ferry trip to Sassnitz-Mukran

approx. 5 km and individual departure

After breakfast, your cycle tour on Bornholm comes to an end. Take the ferry from Rønne back to Sassnitz-Mukran.
