From an idea to a cycling holiday specialist
It all started in 2001 with a simple wish: cycling holidays around Lake Constance, without the hassle of carrying luggage. All we needed was a website, a name (Bodensee-Radweg Service GmbH), two vans called Suzi and Pummel, an office in a converted, listed former stable, and a vision. Our first guided cycling tours launched in 2002, and the record-breaking summer of 2003 didn't hurt either. Things went so well that we soon added tours along the Danube and other destinations, and after five years, we even printed our first catalogue.
Growing further, one destination at a time
As our guest numbers grew, so did our team, and our office kept running out of space. Since 2006, we've been based on Fritz-Arnold-Straße. In 2007, we invested in our first 300 bikes, our signature red cruisers, and added e-bikes to the fleet. By 2009, we'd already welcomed more than 10,000 travellers. Since we were no longer just a Lake Constance specialist, the company took on a new name in 2011: Radweg-Reisen GmbH.
Our route network has kept expanding ever since: Italy, the Altmühl Valley, Switzerland, the Neckar, the Southern Black Forest and the Rhine, followed by the Baltic Coast in 2014 (with our own base in Lübeck), and later the Main region and Denmark.
Service you can rely on
Reliable luggage transfer, well-maintained bikes and personalised travel documents are what we're known for. Since 2015, our in-house software "Gustl" has created these travel documents individually for every guest. We transport more than 85,000 suitcases each year, and 99.86% arrive at the accommodation right on time — often even before our guests, who are quite rightly taking their time enjoying the ride. Since 2019, our support vans have been on the road as "Die Urlaubmacher" – the holiday makers.
Cycling is our passion
Around 40 dedicated, cycling-mad employees, joined by up to 60 seasonal staff in summer, work across four locations to make sure your trip runs smoothly: travel experts, logistics specialists, mechanics, copywriters and luggage drivers alike. That's why we test every route ourselves. Each year, we get on our bikes to explore new tracks and check that our established routes are still up to scratch. It's how we get to know every destination inside out — and how we know exactly which tour suits you best. The highlight of our year is our multi-day team trip each autumn. Whether it takes us to Croatia, Sicily, mountain biking in the Alps, or cycling and cruising through Belgium and the Netherlands, office chairs and desks are swapped for saddles and helmets.
Looking ahead
We used the quieter years of 2020/21 to streamline our processes and develop new ideas — and 2026 has been just as eventful: we've introduced new booking software, given our website a complete redesign, and we're working on an app that will let you carry your travel documents and route details with you digitally. We're proud to be celebrating 25 years of Radweg-Reisen this year, and we owe that milestone to every guest who's cycled this journey with us. New destinations are already in the pipeline — stay tuned!
