Which cycling tours in Europe are suitable for beginners?

For beginners, we recommend tours with short stages (30–45 km per day) and predominantly flat terrain. Particularly popular are the cycle tour in the Netherlands, the Lake Constance cycle tour and the Elbe cycle tour from Prague to Dresden – all of which clearly indicate the stage lengths and elevation profiles.

On each tour page, you’ll find a rating scale of 1–4 for route length and topography, so you can identify the right tour for you at a glance.

When is the best time of year for a cycling holiday in Europe?

The peak season for cycling holidays in Europe is between May and September.

Southern European destinations such as Spain, Portugal and Greece are ideal from as early as April right through to October – with more pleasant temperatures than in the height of summer.

Northern European destinations such as Scandinavia and the Baltic states are particularly recommended between June and August.

For spring trips, classic river cycle routes along the Danube, Rhine or Loire are ideal, as the blossoming fruit trees and mild weather make cycling a particularly enjoyable experience.
