The Fulda Cycle Path begins near the source of the Fulda on the southern slope of the Wasserkuppe, Hessen's highest mountain. It takes you through an idyllic low mountain range landscape, flowering meadows and numerous forests. Inexperienced cyclists, families and leisure cyclists all get their money's worth on the Fulda Cycle Path between the Rhön, Vogelsberg and Waldhessen. Not only the unique landscapes are pleasing to the eye, but also playful medieval towns such as Rotenburg and Melsungen are well worth a look. Exploring the documenta city of Kassel, Bad Hersfeld, the half-timbered town of Hann. Münden and Fulda – the pearl of the Baroque – is a must. The Fulda Cycle Path has few inclines and offers numerous rest stops and refreshment stops along the way, making a tour along the Fulda a relaxing cycling experience.

Itinerary

Day 1

Individual arrival in Gersfeld

The town of Gersfeld is an ideal starting point to begin your bike tour on the Fulda Cycle Path. Nestled in the Rhön, the town, which is recognized as a climatic health resort, invites you to take a walk across the historic market square and through the castle park. If you still have some time left after your arrival in Gersfeld, visit the Gersfeld Wildlife Park. Observe fallow deer, ibex, pheasants and partridges up close.

Day 2

Gersfeld – Fulda

approx. 40 km + transfer

Hesse's highest mountain, the Wasserkuppe, rises to the north of Gersfeld. A transfer will take you and your bike to this elevation, known as the cradle of gliding. Ideal for enjoying the sweeping views of the Rhön landscape. On your way downhill, you will pass the small town of Eichenzell shortly before Fulda. A detour to Schloss Fasanerie with its spacious park is well worthwhile. Fulda awaits you with all kinds of historical buildings. A piece of Zwibbelsploatz will taste particularly good after this cycle stage.

Day 3

Fulda – Bad Hersfeld

approx. 55 km

At the foot of the Vogelberg, following the Fulda Cycle Path, you cycle to the festival town of Bad Hersfeld. A short detour to Schlitz is worthwhile on the way. The old town with its four castles is well worth a visit. The Bad Hersfeld Abbey Ruins are the annual venue for the nationally renowned festival. The Kurbad Therme offers you rest and relaxation, so that you can continue on to Melsungen tomorrow in a relaxed manner.

Day 4

Bad Hersfeld – Melsungen

approx. 55 km

Follow the course of the Fulda river in the densely wooded north of Hesse. The old landgrave town of Rotenburg at the Fulda welcomes you halfway along the route. Experience the over 750-year-old history of this walled and turreted town up close. No less ancient is the former Cistercian nunnery of Haydau near Morschen.

Day 5

Melsungen – Hann. Münden

approx. 65 km

The small medieval town of Melsungen sends you off on your last stage on the Fulda Cycle Path. You reach Guxhagen, which lies on the large Fulda loop. You cycle through the tranquil Fulda valley until you reach Kassel, the "capital of the German Fairytale Route". The mountain park Wilhelmshöhe is just as impressive as the Hercules, the city's landmark. The countless parks invite you to relax and the Grimmwelt Museum takes you on a journey into a fairytale past. Your destination Hann. Münden impresses with its centuries-old half-timbered architecture and masterpieces of the Weser Renaissance.

Day 6

Individual departure

Your bike tour along the Fulda Cycle Path ends today. We would be happy to extend your stay in Gersfelden or Hann. Münden with an extra night.
