The Weser Cycle Path

From Hann. Münden to Bremen - 9 days / 8 nights from 529,- €
The Weser cycle path - Hämelschenburg castle

The cycle tour along the Weser cycle path takes you through an area that is rich in history: along the course of the river, in the North-West of Germany, is the home of many internationally known tales and legends. You can visit the home town of Baron Munchhausen, follow the traces of the Pied Piper of Hamelin and become acquainted with The Bremen Town Musicians. Starting at the river's spring, you follow the Weser, witnessing all of its many faces, to cycle through the countryside of West Germany. Regardless of whether you prefer Weser Renaissance or timber-frame rustique, you will be able to gasp over quite unique buildings, both small and large, as you cycle along the river.

Day 1 Individual arrival in Hann. Münden

Hann. Münden, where the rivers Werra and Fulda unite to form the Weser, enchants visitors with its framework buildings: Here you will find fine specimens of the Weser Renaissance. Embedded in historical fortifications, the old Werra Bridge, the tremendous Welfen Castle and the town hall await enthusiastic visitors. Booked rental bikes will be available at the hotel.

Day 3 Bad Karlshafen/Beverungen - Holzminden/Bodenwerder, approx. 35-55 km

Holzminden, Weser

Today you will leave the foothills of the Solling behind you, before reaching the Fürstenberg castle, which is yet another great example of the Weser-Renaissance. It was first built around 1600 as a hunting castle and offers visitors an excellent view of the Weser Valley. Passing through Höxter with its numerous wooden-framed houses, you will reach Bodenwerder, the home of Münchhausen.

Day 5 Hamelin/Rinteln - Minden, approx. 40/70 km

Day 6 Minden - Nienburg, approx. 65 km

The countryside becomes more gentle as you cycle onwards: broad, lush green meadows replace the wooded hills. You now find yourself in the historically significant area of the Middle-Weser. Fruit-fields along the Weser Cycle Path offer you the chance to pick your own fresh fruit. Today’s destination is the medieval fortress town of Nienburg. Traces of its eventful history can be found throughout the town – follow the bear paws!

Day 7 Nienburg - Verden, approx. 60 km

The landscape and scenery of the Middle Weser is characterised by the flat Weser marshes, fields, woods and broad moors and bogs. In Verden you will be able to visit the cathedral and history museum. The town became famous as a horse and jockey town. Today, it still has a very successful horse-breeding business and since 1949 has been the site of an internationally well-known horse auction.
Overnight stay in Verden

Day 8 Verden - Bremen, approx. 55 km

Today you will only cycle for a short while: the Hanseatic city of Bremen is waiting to be explored. Like almost no other German city, Bremen combines urban flair with friendliness, historical ambience with modernity and cultural variety with typical Hanseatic atmosphere. You definitely shouldn’t miss a visit to the “Schnoor”, the oldest quarter in Bremen.
