Itinerary

Day 1

Individual arrival in Regensburg

Your Five Rivers bike tour begins on the Danube in Regensburg. After checking in, take a leisurely stroll through the city, which was founded by the Romans. Visit the imposing cathedral, discover the Porta Praetoria and spend the evening in one of the city’s beer gardens.

Day 2

Regensburg – Amberg

approx. 70 km

You leave the town and follow the Naab, a tributary of the Danube. Cycling along the river, you pass through idyllic little villages and a charming nature reserve. Eventually, you leave the Naab behind and come to the Vils, which you follow for a while along a former railway line. Once you arrive in Amberg, you should definitely take the time to visit the famous Amberg Stadtbrille. This is the historic water gate that spans the River Vils and, with its two towers, forms a striking landmark of the town.

Day 3

Amberg – Nuremberg

approx. 75 km

Today’s stage has a few physical challenges in store – it’s going to be hilly! The first highlight is the mountain town of Sulzbach-Rosenberg, which is around 1,000 years old. The cycle route takes you up and down hills through woods and meadows. A detour to the historic old town of Hersbruck is well worth it. The town owed its former prosperity to hop-growing, a legacy still evident today in the hop-drying lofts of the old half-timbered houses. Cycling along the River Pegnitz, you’ll eventually reach Nuremberg. The Imperial Castle is the city’s landmark, but the Albrecht Dürer House is also well worth a visit.

Day 4

Nuremberg – Berching

approx. 65 km

You leave the Franconian metropolis behind you. Following the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal, the Five Rivers Cycle Tour takes you through green countryside to Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate. After a good hard pedal, it’s worth taking a breather in the historic old town. You cycle through small villages and woods on cycle paths – some of which are unpaved – via Freystadt to Berching. Today’s destination describes itself as a medieval gem. And rightly so, for the well-preserved old town walls, together with the pretty half-timbered houses, are a remarkable testament to times gone by.

Day 5

Berching – Regensburg

approx. 95 km

Day 6

Individual departure

After breakfast, your five-river bike tour for the sporty ends. We are happy to extend your vacation in Nuremberg with an extra night.

Colorful half-timbered houses lining cobblestone street in Weißgerbergasse, Nuremberg. Historic buildings in yellow, orange, and pink under blue sky.
