Map - The Great Bike Holiday in Bavaria

Itinerary

Day 1

Individual arrival in Lindau

You start your bike holiday in Lindau. The old town of Lindau lies on an island. Enjoy the view of the Alps from the harbour - with the town's landmarks in the foreground: the Bavarian Lion and the 33-metre-high lighthouse. The famous lighthouse and the harbor are worth an evening stroll.

Day 2

Lindau – Oberstaufen

approx. 55 km

You must now turn your back on Lake Constance. If you are lucky with the weather, an impressive panoramic view of the Alps will open up before you. Your destination Oberstaufen is a market in the Oberallgäu. Don't just watch how the delicious cheese is made in the show dairy, but also try it yourself! Enjoy the cozy atmosphere in the traditional region of the Bavarian Alpine foothills.

Day 3

Oberstaufen – Nesselwang

approx. 50 km

You cycle through beautiful valleys past the large Alpsee lake to Immenstadt. Green pastures, magnificent baroque churches and crystal blue water dominate the landscape. After the Grüntensee lake, you reach Nesselwang. If you wish, the mountain railroad will take you up to the Alpspitze. Or you can marvel at the more than 2,500 painted and decorated eggs in the Easter Museum.

Day 4

Nesselwang – Füssen / Schwangau

approx. 25 km

An impressive mountain backdrop accompanies you to Füssen am Forggensee. The picturesque landscape is crowned by the High Castle. With views of the Allgäu Alps, you cycle further along the Romantic Road to Schwangau and soon feel like you've been transported into a fairy tale: The picturesque royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau can be seen from afar.

Day 5

Füssen – Murnau am Staffelsee

approx. 70 / 75 km

You leave the two castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau behind you. On your way to Murnau am Staffelsee, you cycle through idyllic pasture landscapes with the romance of alpine pastures. You pass the world-famous Wieskirche, the epitome of Bavarian rococo - an excellent place to take a break. The Staffelsee with its seven islands then appears in a dreamlike lake and moorland landscape against the backdrop of the Upper Bavarian Alps.

Day 6

Murnau am Staffelsee – Bad Tölz

approx. 50 km

You cycle first to Kochelsee and then on to Benediktbeuern. A monastery was founded at the foot of the 1800 m high Benediktenwand in the 8th century. Bad Tölz, the famous moor and brine spa, surprises with its colorful facade paintings. The focal point is the spacious spa park, where you can take a break. One of the spa town's most famous guests was Thomas Mann.

Day 7

Bad Tölz – Schliersee

approx. 35 km

Today's stage takes you along the edge of the Alps to Lake Tegernsee, probably one of the most famous lakes and home to one of Bavaria's most popular beers. Enjoy the wonderful lake panorama in the small town of Gmund before cycling on to Schliersee. This also presents itself idyllically as a typical Alpine foothills lake and is best explored on board a boat.

Day 8

Schliersee – Bad Feilnbach

approx. 35 km

First, the route runs along the shore of Lake Schliersee. It then gets a little hilly along the way. The town at the foot of the Wendelstein is a well-known moor spa. Due to the mild climate and over 30,000 fruit trees in the area, Bad Feilnbach is also known as the Bavarian Merano. As today's stage is relatively short, you can enjoy Upper Bavaria from its most beautiful side.

Day 9

Bad Feilnbach – Chiemsee

approx. 35 / 45 km

You cycle through the largest Bavarian peat extraction area. After crossing the Inn, you reach Neubeuern, once an important shipbuilding town. Two crossed ship hooks, the coat of arms of the Inn market, can be found all over the town. You reach Lake Chiemsee via Frasdorf. As you are not cycling too far today, there is time for a trip to the Herreninsel or Fraueninsel islands.

Day 10

Chiemsee – Inzell

approx. 30 / 45 km

You cycle along the Hochfelln, Chiemgau's local mountain, on fairly flat paths to Bad Adelholzen, which is one of the oldest spas in Bavaria. Siegsdorf is home to an interesting natural history and mammoth museum. Your cycle tour takes you along the Rote Traun to the former mining town and present-day climatic health resort of Inzell. Many of the town houses in the town center are decorated with the typical southern German air painting.

Day 11

Inzell – Berchtesgaden / Königssee

approx. 45 km

Up to now you have been riding along the edge of the mountains, but now you are heading into the narrow valleys. In Schneizlreuth you reach the Saalach, which takes you to Bad Reichenhall, still one of the most important German salt mining towns today. Treat yourself to a piece of cake in the famous Café Reber before cycling along the Salinenweg to Berchtesgaden. The market town located below the Watzmann mountain was an independent state until 1803. A beautiful circular route takes you to the Königssee lake in the Berchtesgaden National Park. It is nestled like a fjord between steep mountain slopes. The route continues along the Ache river via Marktschellenberg to Austria, into Salzburg. Hohensalzburg Castle can be seen from afar, leading you via Hellbrunn Palace to the festival city.
