Itinerary

Day 1

Individual arrival in Kiel

Welcome to your bike tour from Kiel! You will set off from the capital of Schleswig-Holstein to Odense. So now it is time to get in the mood for the upcoming days with a walk along the Kiellinie. Here you'll find small and large ships and sunbathing at the Falckenstein beach.

Day 2

Kiel – Eckernförde

approx. 50 km

The journey begins! Keep the Kiel Fjord in view and cycle north. You'll cross the Kiel Canal, here it is worthwhile to take detour to the Bülker lighthouse. The white and green striped lighthouse is the oldest of the Kiel Fjord. Take another stop at the steep coast in Stohl and enjoy a short walk. Continue on to your first stage destination – Eckernförde. The mile-long sandy beach to the south of its harbor is the ideal place to relax and reflect on the day.

Day 3

Eckernförde – Kappeln

approx. 45 km

The second stage of your bike tour from Kiel to Odense takes you to the Schlei river. You cycle along the Eckernförde Bay, across the tranquil Schwansen peninsula to Kappeln. The history of the town at the Schlei dates back to the 14th century. Visit the museum harbor and the town's landmark, the Dutch mill Amanda. At 32 meters, it is the tallest windmill in Schleswig-Holstein. Right next to it you'll find a sawmill which offers a glimpse of the art of old woodworking techniques.

Day 4

Kappeln – Flensburg

approx. 60 km + boat trip or approx. 75 km

Flensburg, Germany's northernmost port city, is today's destination. Close to the Baltic Sea, you first cycle through gently rolling hills on to Glücksburg. Its Renaissance castle is considered the cradle of European royalty. Situated in the middle of a pond, it is open to visitors. It will take you on a journey through more than 400 years of history. Get back on your bike you've almost reached Flensburg. If you prefer to spend the last few kilometers on a boat, you can do so from Glücksburg (included, Monday rest day).

Day 5

Flensburg – Sønderborg

approx. 45 km

Before you set off on today's stage of your bike tour from Kiel to Odense, take a stroll through Flensburg. The city, which was first named over 750 years ago, looks back on an eventful past. Partly due to its former trade in rum, which led to considerable prosperity showcased at the Rum Museum. Cycle a few kilometers north across the German-Danish border. Along the Flensburg Fjord you reach Sønderborg on the Als Sound. Visit its castle which now is a museum.

Day 6

Sønderborg – Fåborg

From Sønderborg, you cycle across the island of Als characterized by cliffs, bays and unspoilt beaches. In Fynhav, you board the ferry which takes you to Bøjden on the island of Funen.
