Three impressive capital cities

The Hungarian Danube Cycle Path, or rather, the cycle route that weaves in and out of Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, takes you through Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest – three European cities that count as some of the most beautiful in the world. You will pass beautifully kept farming villages and pretty towns stuffed with history to follow the strong current of the River Danube, also passing the Au forest, protected along much of the route. Two days of the route therefore don't take you along the banks of the Danube, but through the charming countryside beyond. This Bike Trip from Vienna to Budapest, is an easy cycle even for those who are not used to cycling.

Itinerary

Day 1

Individual arrival in Vienna

Let yourself be inspired by the charm of this Danube metropolis. Discover Schönbrunn Palace, the Spanish Riding School, the Prater with Ferris wheel or St. Stephen's Cathedral. Whether Fiakerfahrt through the old town, coffee house visit in the famous Demel, a foray through the 1st district or evening stop at the Heurigen on the outskirts. Your vacation begins with Viennese congeniality..

Day 2

Wien – Bad Deutsch-Altenburg / Hainburg

approx. 50 km

The Danube Cycle Path takes you along the Old Danube out of the city and on through untouched floodplain forests. In Orth, one of the largest Renaissance castles in Austria awaits you. The bike tour continues to your today's stage destination, where the strongest iodine-sulfur spring in Central Europe is located.

Day 3

Hainburg – Bratislava

approx. 35 km

The day begins with a trip to the archaeological park of Carnuntum. Significant buildings from a Roman town have been uniquely reconstructed here. Next, your tour takes you back to Hainburg and just a short while later you will cross the Slovakian border. The capital town of Bratislava is influenced by the castle here of the same name. Wandering through the old town, lovers of drinking chocolate should definitely go to Cokoladovna Cafe.

Day 4

Bratislava – Győr

approx. 40 km + train ride

In Rajká you cross the border to Hungary and cycle over the so-called small Schüttinsel. A huge wetland as well as numerous side arms of the Danube mark the route. In the pretty town of Mosonmagyaróvár, the city of 17 bridges, you board the train and thus cover the last section quite comfortably. In Györ you can end the day in one of the numerous beer gardens.

Day 5

Győr – Komárom

approx. 40 km

Today you will leave the Little Hungarian Plain and reach the rolling hills of Transdanubia. Agriculture is in the foreground here as well and more often you will meet the famous Arabian horses. The national stud farm is not far away. Cycling through the walnut avenues is a pleasure. Your destination for the day is Komárom. Here the Danube divides the Hungarian from the Slovakian city, which originally formed one unit.

Day 6

Komárom – Esztergom / Visegrád

approx. 60 km + boat or train ride

Keeping close to the river you cycle through the flat Danube valley today. Little towns and villages and green vineyards line the cycle path. The more athletic can try the route via the town of Tata, which includes a number of hills. People interested in history should take the time to visit the Roman Fort of Kelemantia. Esztergom and its classicist basilica is an absolute highlight. If you spend the night in Visegrád, take a boat or train to Visegrád from here.

Day 7

Visegrád – Budapest

ca. 65 km

The Royal Palace and the castle of Visegrád provide a picturesque backdrop for the start of today's tour. In the artist town of Szentendre, a visit to the open-air museum or an exploration of the baroque old town is worthwhile. Continue through the Danube Bend, probably the most scenic part of the Danube, towards Budapest. Allow the evening to come to a pleasant end with thoughts of all you have experienced on your tour.

Day 8

Individual departure

Take advantage of the day to get to know the lively Danube metropolis. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. The Danube flows through the city like a silver thread, separating the two districts of Buda and Pest. Although the city in its modern form is only 100 years old, visitors can feel the remnants of the style and glamour of the monarchy throughout the city. We would be happy to extend your bike tour from Vienna to Budapest.
